Week 7- Social Networking, Facebook and Twitter

Facebook is a great way to keep in contact with people especially if the live overseas or interstate. Twitter on the other hand i feel is a bit of a waste of time.

Week 6 - Tagging, Delicious and LibraryThing

I don't think I would find Delicious to be very useful for me - i don't really understand the concept for it when i can just add things to 'my favourites'. Even though it may be a little harder to find websites in 'my favourites' as it's not organised as well as Delicious, it doesn't really bother me because i rarely save website anyway.

Library Thing would be a useful tool so you can easily be remindered of what books you have read. It is also useful because you can see reviews written by others about books.

Week 5 - Wikis

Setting up a wiki was fairly easy, having said that it's always hard to think of something to write that's actually interesting for others to read. I think Wikis in the workplace are really pretty useful as it's a way for everyone to communicate easily with each other and be aware of what's going on in the library and any changes. Sometimes it's easy to post something on a wiki rather then send a bulk email to everyone and sometimes people can't get a chance to read get to their emails. Anyway, if you're interested in checking out my cool wiki (not!) my page can be found at http://emmalh.wetpaint.com/?WPC-action=invite

Week 4 - RSS Feeds

RSS feeds would be very useful for those people who love to read a lot of blogs from various sites. Instead of having to manually go to the page to see if there is a new post, you can easily save it to your Google Reader.

As I don’t read blogs, this tool wouldn’t be very useful for me. However, a RSS feed such as The West Australian would be of interest, as it is a way to keep track of up-to-date information of what’s happening around the world instead of having to relying on the newspaper which is only updated daily.

The five sites I choose for my RSS reader were:

  1. Western Australia Public Libraries - Learning 2.0 Basic
  2. Frankie Magazine
  3. Web 2.0 Training
  4. Dictionary.com Word of the Day
  5. ABC News

Week 3 - Sharing Images

I think Flickr would be very useful for when I make displays as there is only so much that Google offers. As Flickr has a tagging system to find photos, I think the results would be more relevant to the search terms used which would result in me being able to find great images in half the time as it takes me on Google Image.

I've never really looked at Flickr before but i think it would be very easy to spend hours pouring over all the pictures. There are some pretty cool ones!

Anyway, below is a link to a picture I found on Flickr (for some reason it wouldn't upload...) I choose this picture simply because I like this dress and I wish that I was the owner of it.

Week 2 - Introduction to blogs

So I’ve just set up a new blog for the Web 2.0 training program! Exciting times!

I don’t really read/use blogs that often (only when I have to...) as I don’t really see the point in them but this could change once I’ve completed the training program.

Throughout this training program, I hope to learn some cool new skills as well as develop some pre-existing knowledge relating to Web 2.0.
